That was the answer by Myles Garrett when asked after the game how this win feels. I would agree. After playing elite defense, good special teams and unwatchable offense for 56 minutes and still getting the win, it does feel damn good. I was not one of the Browns fans screaming to replace Joe Flacco during the game. Did I think it, yes, maybe one or two times. But I kept telling myself somehow his experience would come through. I noticed during the entire game prior to the snap; he would make sure everyone was in place to avoid pre snap penalties. The last two years, pre snap penalties killed any chance the Browns had in winning games. Then on the last offense play of the game, Flacco’s veteran leadership put the Browns in position to win. A quick pass over the middle to David Njoku and then getting the team lined up for a snap to down the ball before the clock ran out. I’m sorry, no rookie could’ve managed that. Extra yardage and time for a game winning field goal. Just the way you want it drawn up.

Don’t get me wrong, Flacco does look old and is leaving plays on the field. More practice with Isaiah Bond and Quinshon Judkins will improve the offense. Also finding a solution at offensive tackle would help as well. More on that in a minute. Judkins and Bond are starting to get the feel for the professional game. Bond is starting to get separation and Judkins is learning to follow all pro Joel Bitonio even if there doesn’t look like a hole is opening. Let’s not forget about Harold Fannin who had a big catch and then fought through tackles for a bigger gain. On defense, the rookies shined, as well as the usual suspects. Mason Graham had an unheard of 43%-win rate. The average for defensive tackles is 9%. Carson Schwesinger is that guy. In college he had trouble fighting through bodies to make tackles but with this defensive line he’s free to run around and make plays.

Maliek Collins was the best free agent signing this off-season by Andrew Berry. He’s been so good, it helps the other defensive lineman, like Graham and my favorite URFA Adin Huntington. It also helps Alex Wright, Iasiah McGuire and of course Myles Garrett. This defense is elite. All this team needs is an average offense and a good special team, and they could beat anyone.

Concerning the offensive tackle position, In case you didn’t hear, Dawand Jones is done for the year again. I like Jones, but that’s it for me, the Browns have to find a long-term solution at left tackle. The 2026 draft class is loaded, so I would start there. In the meantime, the Browns will be trying to trade for a tackle this week, but it all depends on a trading partner. Andrew Berry knows he needs to get someone in here quick. As for replacements, it does not look like Jack Conklin will be ready for the Detroit game so Cornelius Lucus might move back to right tackle. The Browns did sign two experienced tackles last week, Joshua Miles and Tyre Phillips with Phillips being the best of the two. I’ve also heard the Browns are going to try guard Teven Jenkins at left tackle this week. He’s played that position in the past. KT Leveston took over at right tackle after Jones hurt but showed why he’s developmental player. He’s an outstanding run blocker, but as all Browns fans saw, he’s not very good at pass blocking.

Both Joe Flacco and Myles Garrett used that word to describe yesterday’s game and I would agree. How special teams coach Bubba Ventrone still has a job is amazing. Also, how Cameron Mitchell still has a roster spot is also amazing. This team has no room for errors this year especially against a team like the Ravens. So what happened? Flacco looks very old, and the interior of the offensive line looks even older. Wyatt Teller, Ethan Pocic and Joel Bitonio were supposed to excel in the wide zone blocking scheme. Nope. The special teams again cost the Browns a win. The defense played winning football again but got rewarded with nothing, again. Everyone said the first six games were a gauntlet and yesterday showed you why.

Again, the defense came up with no turnovers and they have no third cornerback. I don’t know how long they can keep this up if this continues. The wide receivers can catch the ball; the Browns lead the league in dropped passes and what the hell is wrong with David Njoku. He’s mostly been quiet after two games. The only positive on offense is the play of the 2025 draft class. Looking forward, I think the running game will improve dramatically with Quinshon Judkins starting.

The new Cleveland media debate is starting Dillon Gabriel over Flacco this weekend against the Packers. Please don’t even suggest it. The Packer’s defense is better than the Ravens and you want to throw a rookie out there? Let’s wait and get pass the next four games, then we can talk about it. I know he looked good very late in fourth quarter after the outcome was decided, but to throw the kid out there against the Packers, Lions, Vikings and Steelers would ruin Gabriel. If the running game can get going with Judkins the Browns offense will be better.

Prior to the season starting, all I asked was for the Browns to be at least 2-4 after the first six games. That can still be achieved, if the defense continues to play great, the offense can start to move the ball on the ground, and the special teams plays a ton better. If any of these three aspects fail, then it’s going to be a long season. Stay safe and Go Browns.

If you had told me before the game the Browns defense would hold Joe Burrow to 114 yards passing and a QBR of 87.7, I would say how much did the Browns win by. Not so much. After a slow start, the defense was as advertised, great. Team leader and all-pro defensive end Myles Garrett took over the game, right when the team need him to take over the game. Linebacker Carson Schwesinger was great as were Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome. Isaiah McGuire was everywhere. My only complaint was they need to be that dominate from the start and do a better job at stopping the run.

The offense was also very good. Quarterback Joe Flacco had one hell of a game, and the two interceptions weren’t his fault. Rookie tight end Harold Fannin and rookie running back Dylan Sampson were better than advertised. Hopefully, running back Quinshon Judkins will be able to play this week against Baltimore, because right now the Browns need to find a way to run the ball. Cincinnati’s defense came into this game as one of the worst run defenses in the league, but they had a great game plan. The Browns offense worked the short field and side to side perfectly in the passing game. If only they had a more dominate running game. I’ve always been a Jerome Ford defender, not anymore. Cleveland has a two-game roster exemption for Judkins, so after those two games I’d cut Ford and keep Raheim Sanders as the third back. My only problem with the offensive line was Dawand Jones. He’s never been a great run blocker, but too many penalties. BTW, the OL did a good job creating holes for the running backs, but the running backs weren’t hitting those holes.

Special teams were average at best and I’m not talking about the kicker missing an extra point and a field goal. The coverage teams gave up too much, especially on one punt return. You have a great weapon in Cory Bojorquez, don’t diminish him by allowing long punt returns. I’ve been told the kicker situation is fluid right now. If I had to guess, they’ll keep Szmyt on the roster this week and let him work through this. He kicked very well in the preseason and beat out the incumbent veteran, so they’ll give him one more chance. But it’ll be a short leash. The fact is there aren’t any good kickers available, only guys the Browns have cut before because they had trouble kicking at Huntington Bank Field.

Next game, at Baltimore where they’ll be celebrating stealing the Browns from Cleveland. Happy thirty years of screw you Ravens. Stay safe and Go Browns.

The Browns finished 3-0 in the preseason which gets them absolutely nothing. The last time they finished undefeated in the preseason was 2017 and then they went on to not win another game. That year, I had a feeling of dread before the season started, this year not so much. I’m getting some positive vibes (yes, I know, vibes is an archaic term) but it seems this team is ready for the season. The 2017 team sure the hell wasn’t. I’ll point to very physical practices and the fact that defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz appeared to be calling plays like it was the regular season in the final preseason game. Lining up rookie Carson Schwesinger as a defensive tackle so he can blitz and get a sack is criminal, and if it’s a crime, I’m here for it.

Most of the attention for the final preseason game will be focused on the poor play of quarterback of Shedeur Sanders and how it’s everyone else’s fault but Shedeur Sanders. Some of the crap (and I wanted to use another word, but I’m trying to keep it clean) is just plain stupid. You don’t draft a player to proceed to make him fail. For f**cks (sorry couldn’t help myself) sake, what the hell is wrong with you people. What the hell gives Colorado fans the right to think their better than any other football fans. They act like they’re in the SEC or the Big Ten. They haven’t been relevant since Kordell Stewart. The Browns saw an opportunity to draft a potential 2026 starter in the fifth round. They’ve coached him up as much as possible. He regressed. It happens. The best news is they’re not giving up on him. He’ll make the roster, and they’ll keep investing in him. And I thought the Baker Bros where bad, the “Shedeur Fanboys” are the worst.

The game itself was kind of boring, and that’s how I like my final preseason games. Boring, but efficient. Flacco looks like he knows what he is doing, Gabreil is a quality rookie and Sanders needs work. It looks like the depth chart for QB’s all off-season was right on target. Speaking of QB’s, I have to admit I’m wrong. Unlike those on social media, I have no problem with it, but the Browns are going to keep four quarterbacks on the initial 53-man roster. No one wants either of these rookies to be one heartbeat away from starting if Flacco gets hurt, no one. It looks like center Ethan Pocic is going to ready for the season opener, which is good news. But the best news is, my favorite UDFA who I’ve been pimping since he signed, Adin Huntington, has made the roster. I love this kid. He played on offense Saturday; he’s a special team’s ace and he gives opposing offensive linemen real problems. Congratulations, Mr. Huntington. Since writing this, cornerback Tony Brown has been waived, but I think he’ll clear waivers and be resigned.

Now we wait to see how GM Andrew Berry improves the roster, and he will. Cutdown day is Tuesday. Watch the running back situation and the cornerback position group. Finally, I feel the Dustin Hopkins era is over in Cleveland. You just can’t miss extra points. Stay safe and Go Browns.

If you watched the Browns preseason game two against the defending Super Bowl Champs, you learned a little more about this team. Their offense will be better than last year, and their defense might be better than 2023. I had forgotten how much fun it is to watch a competent offense. I know what you’re thinking, in both games the offense was very vanilla. You’re right. But to be this effective this early in the process with mostly second and third stringers and two rookie quarterbacks is impressive. In game one, the Panthers weren’t much of a challenge, but the Eagles are a very good team, top to bottom.

As for the so-called quarterback competition, Joe Flacco will be the starter vs. the Bengals, barring injury, (fingers crossed). Both Sanders and Gabriel equated themselves nicely, but neither is nowhere near being a starter in the NFL. That’s leaves what to do about Kenny Pickett. Yes, the Browns like him, but he’s not been available to play. Would the team have liked to see him in a preseason game, sure. But it hasn’t happened. Hopefully he’ll be available for the last game against the Rams, if only to increase his trade value. I still can’t see the Browns keeping four quarterbacks on the final 53-man roster.

There are going to be some hard roster decisions to be made prior to cutdown day and not because of injuries to this point. The reason will because there are some very talented young players on the roster. Both DE Cameron Thomas and DT/DE Adin Huntington have played very well. If the team keeps four defensive tackles and six defensive ends like I think, then DT Shelby Harris might not make the roster. On defense, the only trade or future signing I see the team making is for a new cornerback. Cameron Mitchell is just not cutting it to be the guy to play in the slot. He’s allowed two touchdowns in two games to backup quarterbacks. It will be interesting if he starts against the Rams.

On offense, the backups played better. Both guards Teven Jenkins and Zac Zinter improved from week one, as did Javion Cohen. Luke Wypler had another great game at center. My only concern is OT Dawand Jones. He’s never been a great run blocker but has been a very good pass blocker. Against the Eagles he was neither. The big question on offense is the wide receiver room. Again it’s not because of injuries, it’s because the younger players are playing well. Gage Larvadain and Kaden Davis are playing like they’ll make the roster. Both returned kicks Saturday and both did well. There are rumblings that returner DeAndre Carter may not make the final roster. He hasn’t been a returner in either of the first two games. The Browns might want to see the young guys or they’re saving Carter for the regular season.

Finally, two things. One, the Browns are waiting to sign both Isaiah Bond and Quinshon Judkins until after they’re sure the league won’t suspend them. Bond looks like a surer thing then Judkins, but the Browns are very optimistic Judkins won’t face any penalties. Second, this is the worst I’ve seen Browns social media and local reporters. I expect the national media to be stupid, but the locals are making a race of it. Before you believe anything on social media, and you shouldn’t believe most of it, wait at least thirty minutes. By then a very logical and reasonable explanation will be reported. Stay safe and Go Browns.

Let’s all calm down a little. Yes, quarterback Shedeur Sanders stepped up and handled his first start well. Was he perfect, no. Are there area’s he needs to improve on, yes. Let’s not get carried away and think he can start week one against the Bengals. He can’t. As a matter of fact, if you look at the Browns first opponents, Bengals, Ravens, Packers, Lions, Vikings and Steelers, you really don’t want the kid to start. The Browns want to accomplish two things in 2025, win games and develop one of the rookies to start in 2026. Neither rookie should start in 2025, because it would destroy their development. Joe Flacco will start week one. The one thing I’ll say about Friday night, it was a fun game to watch. Last year there were very few games that were fun to watch. The home game against Baltimore, the “snow globe” game against Pittsburg and the primetime game against Denver. The first win of the season, against Jacksonville, was a struggle to watch, too much stress for a victory over the Jaguars. Here’s a few things I noticed.

Mason Graham and Carson Schwesinger are the real deal. I have no idea why the Panthers double-teamed Graham, but it freed up Alex Wright. Imagine if Myles Garrett had played, Yikes. The Browns defensive line is deep and talented. Julian Okwara had two sacks and UDFA Adin Huntington had one. The Browns had two take aways and didn’t turn the ball over. The team had 308 total offensive yards (183 yards passing & 125 yards rushing). The Browns had 20 first downs, were 6 of 15 on third down (40%), had 6 penalties for 34 yards and their time of possession was 34:28 versus 25:32 for the Panthers. Considering how bad the offense was last year, all these numbers are an improvement, and the penalties mostly happened in the fourth quarter. On offense Luke Wypler and Cornelius Lucas were the best offensive linemen for the Browns. I found it interesting; Javion Cohen started at one of the guard positions. Jackson Barton (RT) and Teven Jenkins (LG) were not impressive. I think Jenkins can still turn it around, but the Browns might be in the market for a fourth tackle on cutdown day.

Gage Larvadain and Kaden Davis have a real chance to make this roster as wide receiver number six. I thought the same of Luke Floriea, but he was waived with a serious hamstring injury. Hopefully he can clear waivers, and the Browns can put him on IR. The backup running backs looked good. I noticed the offensive line was running wide zone concepts the entire game. That’s how this offense is going to work in 2025 and to do it the first preseason game is impressive. It was weird number three tight end Blake Whiteheart didn’t get a single snap, but his replacements Brenden Bates and Sal Cannella played very well.

On defense, I’m not sure Cameron Mitchell makes the roster. After Rayshawn Jenkins was thrown out, he struggled. I’m gald to see the Browns sign two more cornerbacks today, Christian Holmes and Darius Rush. Never hurts to have as many corners as possible. I feel much better about the linebacker depth, while I’m still not to concerned about the secondary depth. Donovan McMillon (UDFA), Dom Johnson (UDFA) and Chris Edmonds played well. As did special team ace, Tony Brown, he was very impressive. Speaking of special teams, wow what a difference. They made a big difference in this game and in a good way.

This week will be a true test for the team. Going from an average Carolina team to the defending Super Bowl Champs is big difference. I can’t wait to see how the two practices go; this will be a true measurement for this team. Stay safe and Go Browns.

Yesterday the Browns signed QB Tyler Huntley and Browns twitter went crazy. Of course, where was a valid reason, but some Browns aren’t happy unless they express their displeasure for the team on social media. If they had only waited 15 to 20 minutes, trusted people would’ve informed them of the reason for the signing. Both Kenny Pickett and Dillon Grabriel are dealing with hamstring injuries and might not be able to play Friday night against the Panthers. Joe Flacco will not be playing, nor should he be playing, not in a meaning less preseason game. So that leaves Shedeur Sanders as possibly the only available QB. Huntley is an insurance policy, that’s it. If Pickett or Gabriel take part in the combined practice Wednesday, then they could be available for Friday night. Huntley would then be released next week.

There is a game played by NFL front offices and player agents. They have to maintain great relationships if both are going to have a chance at being successful. By signing Huntley, the Browns allow him to show that he could still be a valuable backup in the league. It also is a great gesture to the agent who might represent a player the Browns might be interested in signing in the future. It also shows other agents Cleveland is willing to give players a chance, especially quarterbacks. The NFL overvalues the QB position. Tampa wants to sign (pending a physical today) Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater coached a high school team last year and is coming off his third retirement. This league is obsessed with quarterbacks, that’s why they are always over drafted, especially this year.

As for the Browns quarterback room, I still maintain Flacco is the starter, and the Browns will keep (barring injury) Dillon and Sanders. I just can’t see a scenario where keep four on the final 53-man roster. Because of the overvaluation of the QB position, someone will be interested in Kenny Pickett. Tyler Shuck is struggling in New Orleans. The Titans, because of the injury to Will Levis, really don’t have an experienced veteran backup to Cam Ward. There will be opportunities and teams interested in Pickett, but he has to play in practice and preseason games.

Friday night might provide an opportunity for Sanders to start. If he does, he’ll be starting against most of Carolina’s starters. If Pickett or Gabriel are healthy, one or both would play before Sanders. That would be ideal. The Browns are taking their time with Sanders because they see something in him that could bode well for the future. You really don’t want him have a setback because so far, he’s improved with every practice he’s had. Monday was his best day, and the coaching staff is very happy with his progress. He’s not being held back, there’s no conspiracy to make him fail and he’s learning the NFL game at a quick pace. He was never a first-round draft pick, he’s a developmental quarterback, who has the potential to be the Browns franchise QB in 2026. Just remember, if Sanders plays well Friday night, so did DTR and Josh Dobbs in preseason.

Yesterday, the Browns put the pads on for the first time in training camp. Things were popping. From what I’ve heard, the intensity is there. That makes me happy.

Salary Cap Update: The Browns are currently $19.1 million under the cap. Again as like I said last week, plenty of salary.

Kemmy Pickett’s Injury: Strained hamstring. Monday head coach Kevin Stefanski gave little information, which is normal despite what members of the media say. He did say Pickett would miss the latest block of practices, so he might be back next week.

Practice Monday: Having pads on made a big difference with the offensive line, although I’m still a little worried about depth. Barton Jackson took some reps at right tackle allowing Cornelius Lucus to concentrate on left tackle. While, Dawand Jones has lost a ton of weight (he’s at 292), the coaching staff is still in a wait and see mode on Jones. They want to make sure he stays in shape before he starts at left tackle. Last year before the injury he was +400 lbs. Luke Wypler looks like he can take over if Ethan Pocic gets hurt. My main concerns are Zak Zinter and Teven Jenkins. Zinter has been inconsistent, and Jenkins is still not all the way back from injury. If the Browns keep only three offensive tackles, Jenkins is key to that plan because he has played some LT. I still think they keep four.

The defensive line is going to be great. It would surprise me that anyone else besides Isaiah McGuire starts opposite of Myles Garrett. Linebacker Carson Schwesinger is a player. He’s bigger than most people think and he’s fast. Real fast. He’ll be fine with the green dot. Keep an eye on UDFA Donovan McMillon, he’s always around the ball. I’m not worried about the secondary. On offense, Jerry Jeudy and Diontae Johnson are a quarterback’s dream. Both run great routes and separate extremely well. Harold Fannin is going to be a weapon. Dylan Sampson is faster in real time than on film. Newly signed running back Toa Taua is making the best of his situation, He might be the short yardage, short term fix this team needs.

QB Battle: Because of Pickett’s injury, the rookies are getting more opportunities. Just be careful on what you see on social media. Sanders fans are making a big deal out of his last pass for a touchdown. If it were a real game, he would have been sacked prior to stepping up in the pocket. You can see the defensive lineman ease up. As for the preseason games, I expect both rookies to play in all three. I’m curious to see if Flacco plays in any of them, hopefully a little in the last one. Every year the starters play in the scrimmages then don’t play in the preseason game. I can’t wait for the pearl clutching from the media and the Stefanski haters to complain. I’m fully convinced most of the Sander’s fans on social media are not Browns fans. Browns veterans report to Berea today and Browns training camp officially starts tomorrow. Here’s some quick notes to get you in the mood.

Salary Cap: According to Over The Cap, the Browns are $17.6 million under the cap. I remind people of this, because despite the perception they have no cap room, they have cap room. They could create more room whenever they want, so salary is not a problem for this front office.

Quarterback Battle. Despite the false noise from everyone on social media and the stupidity of some members of the media, the Browns do not have the quarterbacks ranked in any order. It’s truly a competition. I’ve been told the team expects to be successful on the field in 2025 and will name the best starter to achieve that success. They don’t want to start a rookie, but if a rookie is their best option for success, so be it. They have not decided on a starter; Browns GM Andrew Berry has not told the coaches who will start and there is no depth chart. The situation will get clearer as training camp continues. As for the rookies, the coaching staff is very impressed with the progress both have made since OTA’s.

Running Back. The organization has told Quinshon Judkins to stay away from training camp to get his personal and legal situations in order. The team doesn’t want any distractions and are still gathering information about the incident. As for signing another running back, right now the team wants to see what they have. Jerome Ford will step in as the primary back for now. The only free agent I would be interested in would be Gus Edwards. He may be 30 years old, but he can still fine the end zone in short yardage situations. If the Browns feel the need to trade for a back, keep an eye on the Denver Broncos. They have five running backs in camp, Audric Estime, Blake Watson, Jaleel McLaughlin, R.J. Harvey and J.K. Dobbins. Harvey was drafted this year and Dobbins just recently signed. All are intriguing, but Watson would be the best option on this list.

Quick Hits. Right now, unless the team can sign a veteran tight end on the cheap, the Browns plan on giving Harold Fannin every opportunity to thrive in Kevin Stefanski’s offense. Despite the false rumors on social media, Mason Graham is not out of shape. He looks bigger but still weighs the same. The coaching staff is very pleased with his knowledge of the playbook and has absorbed everything thrown at him. He has been working with a pass-rush specialist and two had-fighting experts. Finally two URFA to watch in training camp, DE Adin Huntington and S Donovan McMillon. I’ve mentioned both in past writings.

Well Browns fans, we were so close to making it to training camp with a clean off-season, so close. As many of you know, Browns rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was arrested Saturday in Fort Lauderdale Florida. He spent the night in jail and was released Sunday after paying a $2500.00 bond. The charge was “touch or strike/battery/domestic violence.” According to Florida law it’s a first-degree misdemeanor. The victim appeared to have injuries, specially bruising. The woman and Judkins apparently were in a relationship in May of 2024 but were traveling to Florida as friends. The incident occurred on July 7, five days prior to the Judkins arrest. According to Judkin’s attorney, the victim was, “encouraged to take advantage of my client, and that’s why she made the after-the-fact report, quite frankly.” The five-day delay in pressing charges does raise an eyebrow, but sometimes victims of domestic violence have to be persuaded to file charges, it’s not an easy decision.

As of today, Judkins has yet to sign a contract, as do 29 other players taken in the second round. The two second rounders who have signed, including Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger, both received fully guaranteed contracts. The rest of the second rounders are waiting for the same. Does this arrest complicate Judkins signing? Not really. I expect him to be signed prior to rookies reporting Friday. As for the NFL’s personal conduct policy, he will get suspended without pay and miss games. But this won’t happen until the legal process plays out. The league is investigating and that investigation will determine if Judkins is placed on the commissioner’s exempt list. According to the NFL rule book, ” Players who are placed by the Commissioner on the Exempt list prior to the determination of discipline and any appeal therefrom under the Personal Conduct Policy will be paid while on the Commissioner Exempt list and credited for the regular and post-season games missed against any suspension ultimately imposed.” Browns DT Michael Hall was placed on the exempt list last year on August 27 and was reinstated after missing five games on October 7.

Of course, there are fans and media members blaming Browns GM Andrew Berry. He did draft Perrion Winfrey and Michael Hall, two players with red flags, but Judkins had not red flags. He has never been in trouble before and was considered the second or third best running back in a very strong running back draft. All 32 teams found no problem in his past. This is why this is unusual behavior for Judkins. I’m going to wait till the details come out before I condemn a young man for this arrest. I’ll wait till I know the situation he was in and the circumstances of the charges.
