It’s Draft Day Browns fans and the Browns don’t have a first-round pick, but they do have a franchise quarterback and a number one wide receiver. This roster is ready to compete right now in the very loaded AFC. GM Andrew Berry has had another excellent off-season and I can’t wait to see who the Browns draft this weekend. Once again Berry has left other teams and draft experts guessing as to what his draft strategy will be starting Friday night. Three things you can bet on, most of the players if not all, will be from power five schools, he’ll move around Friday and Saturday and he’ll collect future picks. I don’t think the Browns will trade back into the first round because they don’t have the draft capital. I do think Baker Mayfield will be traded either this weekend or shortly afterward. The first team to watch is the Panthers. They have the sixth pick tonight and their next pick is number 137 in the fourth round. I can’t see them picking a QB at six. As for the other teams who might be interested in Mayfield, Seattle and Atlanta.

This mock assumes the Browns go wide receiver with the 44th pick and they have a deal in place with DE Jadaveon Clowney. If the Browns, feel the need to strengthen the defensive line then pick number 44 could be Logan Hall, Houston, Drake Jackson, USC or David Ojabo, Michigan. Then the Browns could pick a wide receiver at number 78 like Khalil Shakir, Bosie State, Wan’Dale Robinson, Kentucky or Alex Pierce, Cincinnati. All of this depends on the positional runs that happen in the first round. Wide receivers and edge rushers could fly off the board tonight. The best scenario for the Browns would be if other teams panic and overdraft quarterbacks. None of the QB’s in this draft is a top fifteen pick, but it’s the one position where teams panic. I would love to see at least eight offensive linemen and three quarterbacks drafted in the first round. Push the talent into day two.
In his first two drafts, Andrew Berry has not picked in the second round at the team’s original pick. If he moves up a little, it could be for WR Treylon Burks who is all over the draft board right now and I know the Browns like. A move down for additional picks is also possible. The Browns let the draft come to them and move accordingly. That’s why the front office goes over about a thousand draft scenarios leading up to the draft.
